My Mommy was extra busy on her computer this weekend typing away. She said she was putting down thoughts to take to her lawyer on Monday and it was kind of about ME in a round about way. When I sat there listening to her, tilting my head in my cute "what in the heck are you talkin' about way" she said it was about her trust. I started giving her puppy kisses because I wanted her to know that I still trusted her. "Actually Reba", she said, "I am going to change my trust so that I leave money to the shelter where I found you when I go to heaven". And that's what she did.
That got us thinking about what happens to your pet if you die first. We found that a lot of people are putting their pets in their wills and trusts with instructions about how and with whom the pet will live their lives out. Here's a good article on the subject that we found from Pets for Patriots this morning that gives an overview on
pets and estate planning.
Have you included your pet in your estate planning?

Very good post and yes, I am working on my will etc right now, with my cats foremost in mind. I will feel better when it is complete and I can feel good about what I have done for them...
Very good...very buddy needs to add us to their trust
Benny & Lily
Mama says that she has made a plan A for if she goes first, plan B if her and daddy goes first, plan C if her, daddy AND grandma goes first and more. At plan E, Daddy stepped in and told her that if 15 of our loved ones die all at once, the zombie apocalypse is probably upon us and we'll have bigger things to worry about. The Mama just wanted to be sure that we ended up with someone who would love us and that she left enough to care for us in the same high-quality manner that the Mama and the Daddy do.
Koly and Felix - you already know this but you have the BESTEST Mama in the world (next to mine of course)!
Terri you will feel better when you get that done. It will be a relief!
Benny and Lily - did you mean all of your buddies need to add you two to their Trusts? BOL!
I havent really thought about this before being 21, but if anything were to happen i would love to now my pitbull motley was safe and in good hands
Check out motley at http://www.thepitbullpalace.blogspot.com/ if you get a chance!! love new doggy friends
Matt - Really like your site. Molly is such a pretty girl! Those ears! You've got some beautiful GSD's there. I used to raise them back in the 80's. I added my blog on your Google Connect. Hope you did the same:)
Nice to meet you!!! Good idea to put it down on paper I supposed. I just figured EVERYBODY would be wanting to come and get me and take care of me just like my mom and dad do, but maybe my people and I should put paw to paperon this one!!!
Thanks for bringing up this difficult -- but important -- topic. And Kolchak it's lucky I wasn't drinking coffee while reading your comment about the Zombie apocalypse because it would have been all over my keyboard.
I've thought about it, but will have to admit I haven't actually done anything. I know that my mom would probably take in Koira if anything happened to me, though she may not raise her the way I would, and Pallo would probably be able to find a home easily with one of his many admirers, either to do flyball still or as a farm dog. Still, it would probably be a good idea to actually put it all in writing.
Gosh you're cute, Reba! Thanks for visiting my blog. And you're right about estate planning; it's especially important for parrots because they live a long time.
I am new to your blog. I found you on The Farm House blog hop. You gave me a lot to think about, as I have many animals and have not thought much about me going to heaven, before their time. Thanks for the info. I am now a follower of your blog.
